Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits of MBS Talking Therapy?

We all know it is good to talk. The old saying 'a problem shared is a problem halved' can go a long way in talking therapies. Sometimes it is better to talk to someone who is not a friend or relative, helping you to see your difficulties from a different perspective and empowering you to find the answers within yourself. A good therapist actively listens without judgement and will respect you and your feelings. Talking to someone openly about how you are feeling may not make your problems go away but can help you to find better ways of coping, making you feel happier and less weighed down with difficulties.

What will my first session be like?

It is normal to feel anxious about your first session. This is the time for us to get to know each other a bit and to ease any worries you may be having. We will discuss and agree on a basic framework, such as confidentiality, session lengths and timings to build a secure and confidential agreement between us. You will be then asked to complete a Core 10 Form to help assess your current difficulties. It is a time for me to ask questions about what has been going on for you and what you would most like help with. It also gives you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. I can then assess and tailor future sessions around you as an individual, ensuring you will get the most out of sessions.

What kinds of young people seek MBS Talking Therapy?

This is YOUR time to allow yourself to talk openly about how you are feeling. I am there for you, whether you need to cry, laugh or shout! I will actively listen to you and while many forms of talking therapies focus on speaking and listening, this is not the only tool used in the MBS therapeutic process. Other mediums may include the use of grounding techniques, role play/drama, art, play, writing, yoga, exercise, body awareness and breathing techniques.

How many sessions will I need?

I recommend a minimum of 6-8 sessions to allow for any positive changes in your life.

How long does a session last?

Each online or face to face session will last 50 minutes.

How should I make the most out of my sessions?

The first step to any healing is wanting to get better. Think about what you want to get out of therapy. Positive changes will not happen overnight so you must have an open mind to changing any core beliefs or habits that are negatively impacting your thought patterns. I do give out 'homework' (not much!) and expect it to be completed for the next session. What you do outside of sessions and how you apply given coping strategies in your day to day life is just as important as what we do in the sessions. Practicing the learnt mindfulness strategies in your own time will also allow you to reap positivity in your life?

What issues can MBS Talking Therapy help with?

MBS Talking Therapy can help with mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression, as well as difficult life events such as loss (bereavement/relationship/work) and difficult emotions such as low self-esteem  and self-worth. It can help you to think about yourself, about others and about the world. It can also help you to understand how your mind, body and soul are connected-how what you do/how you behave affects your feelings and thoughts and how the way you feel and think affects the way you act.

Do I need to bring a parent?

If you are under 18 your parent will firstly have to give consent to your sessions but bringing a parent along may hinder the healing process as you may feel you cannot talk openly and freely about your emotions. If you are participating in online sessions I suggest you find a quiet space where you will not be disturbed. In some cases it may be beneficial for a parent to be present to help you practice techniques in your own time.

Will our sessions be confidential?

Everything in our sessions is confidential unless I have any safeguarding concerns. For example, if I feel you may hurt yourself or someone else. If you are under 18 I will always ask your consent if I feel there is something that is needed to be discussed with a parent.

What kinds of young people seek MBS Talking Therapy?

MBS can be useful for any young person who wants to explore the way they are thinking or feeling or for coping strategies to help with a mental health difficulty. It is also for any young person who wants more joy and peace in their lives, to nourish their mind, body and soul.

Do I need to attend weekly sessions?

YES! MBS Therapy requires a consistent effort from both me and you to build up a trusting relationship. This in turn improves the quality of the MBS therapeutic process with a higher rate of positive success. It takes both of us to work hard to get good results!

Can I change my session time if I need to?

Of course! Although I do ask for 24 hours notice to save you being charged for the session. Should I need to cancel the session due to unforeseen circumstances you will of course be fully reimbursed or your session rearranged.
